About Margam Castle
Margam Castle, at Margam in Port Talbot, is a country house of the late Georgian period, made for Christopher Rice Mansel Talbot. Thomas Hopper designed it in a Tudor Revival style, and it took five years to build, from 1830 to 1835, on a site with some 4,000 years of occupation behind it. The castle is Grade I listed, and the county borough council for Neath Port Talbot now looks after it. It sits within Margam Country Park, once the house's estate, and the park itself holds a Grade I place on the Cadw/ICOMOS register of historic parks and gardens in Wales.
