About Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life
Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life tells the story of work and everyday life in Coatbridge and the wider Lanarkshire area of Scotland. It sits where the Victorian Summerlee Iron Works once stood, together with the old Hydrocon Crane factory, whose main building, much altered, is now the exhibition hall. Displays cover engineering, mining, steel, weaving and farming. The 22-acre site takes in two scheduled monuments, the ironworks itself and the Monkland Canal, as well as a mine and a row of miners' houses. There are steam locomotives, carriages from a Glasgow Class 311 train and a short heritage tramway that still runs, and entry is free.
