Retro railway-poster illustration of St Peter's Collegiate Church in Wolverhampton, its pinnacled tower rising above the nave, framed by trees in the churchyard.
St Peter's Collegiate Church stands in the centre of Wolverhampton. It served as a chapel royal for many centuries. From 1480 it was a royal peculiar, answering neither to the Diocese of Lichfield nor even to the Province of Canterbury. Its dean owned much of the town, and until the 18th century it was Wolverhampton's only church, with dependent chapels across southern Staffordshire. Since 1848 it has been fully part of the diocese, and it now belongs to the Anglican Parish of Central Wolverhampton. Much of the Grade I listed building is 15th-century Perpendicular work. It keeps a strong choral tradition, and restoration of its Father Willis organ began in 2018, after a fundraising campaign launched in 2008.
