A closer look.

Special occasion: Christmas.

Snowy winter illustration of the mansion at Bletchley Park in Milton Keynes: red brick and stone bays, a green copper dome, and the curving drive in front, in falling snow.

A winter drawing of Bletchley Park, Milton Keynes, made from a real photograph of the real place with a light fall of snow added for the season. The artwork is an AI interpretation, not a documentary photograph; details can differ from the original.

About Bletchley Park

Bletchley Park, a country house with its own estate in Bletchley, Milton Keynes, became the main centre of Allied codebreaking in the Second World War. The Government Code and Cypher School was based here and routinely broke the Axis powers' secret messages, above all Germany's Enigma and Lorenz ciphers. Its codebreakers, three-quarters of them women, included Alan Turing, Dilwyn Knox, Mavis Lever, Gordon Welchman and Bill Tutte. They built machines to speed up decryption, leading to Colossus, the first programmable digital electronic computer in the world. The work ended in 1946 and stayed secret until the mid-1970s. Today the estate is home to the Bletchley Park museum.
