About Flint Castle
Flint Castle, Castell y Fflint in Welsh, stands in Flint, Flintshire, and was the first in the chain of castles Edward I built as he set out to take Wales. The site was picked because of where it stood in north-east Wales: Chester lay just a day's march away, supplies could come in along the River Dee, and a nearby ford crossed to England at low tide. Its architect was James of Saint George. It is a scheduled monument and Grade I listed.
