The Iron Bridge, Telford, Shropshire — drawn in our Retro Railway style from a real photograph of the real place, reimagined with AI.
Retro railway-poster illustration of The Iron Bridge in Telford, seen from the stone abutment beside it, its pale blue cast-iron arch and railings spanning the river with walkers on top, wooded slopes, a white cottage and a red-brick house beyond.
About The Iron Bridge
The Iron Bridge spans the River Severn in the Ironbridge Gorge, Shropshire. When it opened in 1781, it was the world's first major bridge made of cast iron, and its success spread the use of cast iron in building; it is now seen as an emblem of the Industrial Revolution. The deep gorge, shaped by glaciers in the last ice age, held coal, limestone, iron ore and fire clay near the surface, but its unstable banks made bridging hard. Thomas Farnolls Pritchard proposed a single iron span that left room for boats, and Abraham Darby III made the ironwork over two years of building. It became a scheduled monument and closed to vehicles in 1934, and walkers paid tolls until 1950.
