About Catalyst Science Discovery Centre
The Catalyst Science Discovery Centre in Widnes, Halton, is a museum of science and technology. It is housed in Tower Building, which John Hutchinson put up around 1860 as the head office for his chemical business. Inside are hands-on exhibits, rebuilt historical scenes, an observatory, family workshops and a theatre for live science. It also keeps archives on the chemical industry, from documents and photographs to the whole research archive of ICI's General Chemical Division. Next door is Spike Island, a public park of woods and wetland lying between the Sankey Canal and the River Mersey, with traces of its industrial past.
