About Knaresborough Viaduct
Knaresborough Viaduct takes the Harrogate line across the Nidd at Knaresborough in North Yorkshire. The line was meant to open in 1848, but the first viaduct fell into the river before it was finished, and building a replacement held up services through Knaresborough for three years. It crosses the Nidd Gorge roughly 200 metres north of the ruined Knaresborough Castle. The town knows it as a landmark, and one writer ranks it among the region's better-known ones. It is a Grade II* listed railway viaduct.
