About Linlithgow Palace
Historic Environment Scotland cares for the ruins of Linlithgow Palace, open to visitors in the West Lothian town of Linlithgow, 15 miles west of Edinburgh. In the 15th and 16th centuries this was one of the chief homes of the Scottish monarchs. Once they moved to England in 1603 the palace saw little use, though it was still maintained. Fire gutted it in 1746.
