About Pontefract Castle
Pontefract Castle, also known as Pomfret Castle, is a ruined castle in the town of Pontefract, West Yorkshire. It is thought that King Richard II died there, and during the English Civil War of the 17th century it came under a series of sieges. Today it belongs to the Duchy of Lancaster and is run by Wakefield Council, and the site is a scheduled monument.
