Retro railway-poster illustration of Arundel Castle in Arundel, seen from below with round and square battlemented towers and tall arched windows on a grassy mound, a stone wall, young trees and a red path curving through the grounds.
Arundel Castle is a medieval castle in Arundel, West Sussex, much restored and remodelled over time. Roger de Montgomery founded it in the 11th century, and from then on it has been home to the Earls of Arundel and later the Dukes of Norfolk as their seat. Fighting in the English Civil War left it damaged. The 11th Duke of Norfolk restored it in the late 18th century and on into the early 19th, and from the 1890s Charles Alban Buckler carried out further restoration and decoration for the 15th Duke. Its style is Gothic Revival. The castle is listed at Grade I and is a scheduled monument, and its park and garden are listed Grade II*.
