About Chichester Cathedral
Chichester Cathedral is dedicated to the Holy Trinity, and the Anglican Bishop of Chichester has his seat there, in West Sussex. Its status dates from 1075, the year the bishop's seat moved here from Selsey. Its buildings mix Norman and Gothic work, and two features set it apart from every other medieval cathedral in England: a bell tower standing on its own, and double aisles. Inside are two rare medieval sculptures alongside modern tapestries, glass and sculpture, many commissioned by Walter Hussey, dean from 1955 to 1977. Its spire, England's third tallest, is the only medieval cathedral spire in the country that can be seen from out at sea. It is Grade I listed.
