See our earlier sample in a real homeTransporter Bridge, Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire — drawn in our Retro Railway style from a real photograph of the real place, reimagined with AI.
Retro railway-poster illustration of Middlesbrough's blue Transporter Bridge in the distance and the red-brick clock tower beside it, across a field of tall golden grass.
The Tees Transporter Bridge, known locally simply as The Transporter, crosses the River Tees between Middlesbrough on the south bank and Port Clarence on the north. It opened in 1911 and is the longest transporter bridge still standing anywhere in the world. A travelling gondola hangs beneath the steel frame and makes the crossing in 90 seconds, taking up to 200 people or nine cars at a time. Classed as part of the A178, it is the furthest bridge downstream on the Tees. It is Grade II* listed, with its winch house and piers at Grade II. Safety concerns have kept it out of service since 2019.
