About Darwen Tower
Darwen Tower, also known as the Jubilee Tower, is an eight-sided tower on Darwen Hill, high above the Lancashire town of Darwen. It was finished in 1898 to mark Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee, and it also celebrates a win by local people in their fight for the right to walk on the surrounding moors. The public were let in from 24 September that year. The tower is 85 feet high, and the hill, also called Beacon Hill, rises 1,220 feet above sea level. A staircase inside leads to the top, where the view takes in the Isle of Man, Blackpool Tower, Morecambe Bay, North Wales and Cumbria. It is Grade II listed.
