About Penarth Pier
Penarth Pier is a Victorian pier in the seaside town of Penarth, in the Vale of Glamorgan. It opened in 1898 and drew crowds of seaside visitors, who also took trips on the pleasure steamers that sailed from it. Ships have run into the structure several times, and in 1931 a fire started in one of its pavilions. That wooden pavilion was never rebuilt, but a concrete one has served as a concert hall, a ballroom and a cinema, among other uses, and now houses the Penarth Pier Pavilion. The pier is Grade II listed.
