About Dunstable Priory
Henry I founded Dunstable Priory in 1132 for Augustinian canons, in Dunstable, Bedfordshire, and his royal palace of Kingsbury stood opposite. The priory church was dedicated to St Peter, and what survives as St Peter's now is just the nave of a much larger building. The community also had a brewhouse, bakehouse and buttery, an infirmary, a dormitory, stables and workshops. Pilgrims and travellers stayed in a hostel, and its remains are now known as Priory House. The church, in the Diocese of St Albans, was listed Grade I in 1951.
